Ingredients

  • ·cedar plank
  • 1½ poundssalmon fillet (skin-on)
  • 2 tablespoonolive oil
  • 1lemon
  • ¼ cupfresh dill
  • 3garlic cloves
  • ·kosher salt
  • ·black pepper

Prep

  1. 01

    Mince 3 garlic cloves.

  2. 02

    Chop 1/4 cup fresh dill.

  3. 03

Slice 1 lemon into thin rounds.

Method

  1. 01

Soak the cedar plank in water for at least 1 hour before grilling.

  2. 02

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F).

  3. 03

Place the soaked cedar plank on the grill grates and let it heat for 3–5 minutes until it starts to smoke lightly.

  4. 04

Carefully place the salmon skin-side down on the hot plank. Drizzle with olive oil and season generously with salt and pepper.

  5. 05

Scatter the minced garlic and fresh dill over the salmon. Squeeze lemon juice over the top and add lemon slices.

  6. 06

Close the grill lid and cook for 12–15 minutes, until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F.

  7. 07

Carefully remove the plank from the grill using tongs or grill gloves. Let rest for 2 minutes before serving directly on the plank.

Spice Tips

The dill and lemon already provide bright, classic flavors. If you'd like more depth, try adding a pinch of smoked paprika or a dash of Dijon mustard to the olive oil before drizzling. For a subtle heat, finish with a light sprinkle of red pepper flakes.

Cedar planks are reusable—after the first use, they may char on the surface but won't affect flavor. Soak thoroughly before each use. For extra richness, top the finished salmon with a pat of butter just before serving.
