Ingredients

  • 2 cupsfresh strawberries
  • 3 tablespoonsgranulated sugar
  • ½ cupbuttermilk
  • ½ teaspoonvanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoonlemon juice

Method

  1. 01

Add the hulled and quartered strawberries and sugar to a medium saucepan over medium heat.

  2. 02

Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries break down and release their juices.

  3. 03

Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.

  4. 04

Transfer the strawberry mixture to a blender and add the buttermilk, vanilla extract, and lemon juice.

  5. 05

Blend until smooth, about 30 seconds.

  6. 06

Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Serve immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Perfect for drizzling over pancakes, waffles, pound cake, or ice cream. The buttermilk adds a subtle tang that balances the sweetness. For a thicker sauce, reduce the buttermilk to 1/3 cup.
