Ingredients

  • 1½ poundsbroccoli
  • 4 clovesgarlic
  • 1 tablespoonfresh ginger
  • 3 tablespoonsoy sauce
  • 2 tablespoonsesame oil
  • 2 tablespoonvegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoonsesame seeds
  • ¼ teaspoonred pepper flakes (optional)

Prep

  1. 01

    Cut broccoli into bite-sized florets.

  2. 02

    Mince 4 garlic cloves.

  3. 03

Mince or grate 1 tablespoon fresh ginger.

Method

  1. 01

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 1 minute.

  2. 02

Add broccoli florets to the hot pan in a single layer. Let them sit undisturbed for 3 minutes until the bottoms are light golden, then stir and cook another 2 minutes until just tender-crisp.

  3. 03

Push broccoli to the sides of the pan. Add garlic and ginger to the center, stirring constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  4. 04

Drizzle in soy sauce and sesame oil. Toss everything together and cook for 1 minute until the liquid coats the broccoli.

  5. 05

Transfer to a serving plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds and red pepper flakes if using. Serve immediately.

Spice Tips

For more heat, increase red pepper flakes to 1/2 teaspoon or add a pinch of white pepper. A squeeze of fresh lime juice or a drizzle of chili oil over the finished dish adds brightness and extra kick.

This dish is best served immediately while the broccoli is still crisp. Leftovers can be reheated gently in a skillet with a splash of water.
