- 03
Slice 1 medium shallot into thin rounds.
Method
- 01
Trim the ends off the green beans and rinse them well.
- 02
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 4–5 minutes, until just tender but still with a slight snap. Drain well.

- 04
In the same skillet, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant. Do not brown.
- 05
Add the drained green beans to the skillet and toss gently to coat in the garlic butter. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper to taste.
- 06
Transfer to a serving dish and top with the crispy shallots. Serve warm.
Spice Tips
For a hint of warmth, add a pinch of smoked paprika or cayenne to the garlic butter. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice brightens the finish without overpowering the classic flavor.
The green beans can be trimmed up to 1 day ahead and stored in the refrigerator. Shallots soften as they cool; for maximum crispness, add them to the beans just before serving.
