  • ·black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoonred pepper flakes (optional)

Prep

  1. 01

Trim the stem ends from 1.5 pounds green beans.

  2. 02

    Peel and mince 3 shallots.

  3. 03

    Mince 5 cloves garlic.

Method

  1. 01

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

  2. 02

Add green beans and cook for 4–5 minutes, until tender but still bright green. Drain well and set aside.

  3. 03

While beans cook, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  4. 04

Add minced shallots and cook, stirring often, for 3–4 minutes until golden and fragrant.

  5. 05

Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using), stirring constantly for 30 seconds.

  6. 06

Add the drained green beans, remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil, and butter to the skillet. Toss to coat evenly.

  7. 07

Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring gently, until the beans are heated through and the shallots and garlic are deep golden and crispy.

  8. 08

Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve warm.

Spice Tips

For deeper savory depth, add a small pinch of smoked paprika with the garlic. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice at the end brightens the dish. For more heat, increase the red pepper flakes to ½ teaspoon.

Green beans can be trimmed up to 1 day ahead and stored in the fridge. The shallot-garlic mixture is best made fresh, but you can prep it 30 minutes before cooking.
