  • 2 tablespoonsolive oil
  • ·salt
  • ·black pepper
  • 1 teaspoondried oregano

Prep

  1. 01

    Dice 1 yellow onion.

  2. 02

    Mince 3 cloves garlic.

  3. 03

Shred half a green cabbage (about 4 cups).

Method

  1. 01

Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 02

Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.

  3. 03

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook, stirring, until the onion softens, about 2 minutes.

  4. 04

Add the shredded cabbage, 1 can crushed tomatoes, 1/2 cup beef broth, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir well.

  5. 05

Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cook uncovered for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the sauce thickens slightly.

  6. 06

Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper as needed. Serve warm.

Spice Tips

For deeper flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika with the oregano. For mild heat, stir in a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes at the end. A tablespoon of tomato paste mixed in before adding the tomatoes will intensify the savory notes.
