Beef & Noodle Skillet with Caramelized Onions & Thyme
Ingredients
- 1 poundground beef
- 8 ounceegg noodles
- 1yellow onion
- 3 clovegarlic
- 2 cupbeef broth
- 2 tablespoontomato paste
- 2 teaspoonfresh thyme (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
- 2 tablespoonbutter
- ·salt
- ·black pepper
- ½ cupparmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
Prep
- 01
Dice 1 yellow onion.
- 02
Mince 3 cloves garlic.
Method
- 01
Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for 8–10 minutes until deeply golden and soft.
- 02
Push the onions to the side of the skillet. Add the ground beef to the empty space and cook, breaking it apart as it browns, until no pink remains, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
- 03
Stir in the minced garlic and tomato paste. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- 04
Pour in the beef broth and add the thyme. Stir well, then bring to a simmer.
- 05
Add the egg noodles directly to the skillet and stir to combine. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 8–10 minutes until the noodles are tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
- 06
Stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon butter. Taste and season with salt and pepper. Serve warm, topped with parmesan cheese if desired.
Spice Tips
For depth, add 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika with the tomato paste. For warmth, try a pinch of cayenne. A squeeze of Worcestershire sauce (1 teaspoon) rounds out the savory notes.
Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 3 days—reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of broth.
