Ingredients

  • 1 poundground turkey
  • 1½ poundsweet potato
  • ·yellow onion
  • ·garlic
  • 2 tablespoonolive oil
  • 1 cupchicken broth
  • ·sage (fresh)
  • ·cinnamon
  • ·salt
  • ·black pepper

Prep

  1. 01

Peel and dice 1.5 pounds sweet potato into 1/2-inch cubes.

  2. 02

    Dice 1 medium yellow onion.

  3. 03

    Mince 2 cloves garlic.

Method

  1. 01

Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks, 5–6 minutes until no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. 02

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the turkey and cook for 2 minutes, stirring, until fragrant.

  3. 03

Add the diced sweet potato and stir to coat in oil. Cook for 2 minutes.

  4. 04

Pour in 1 cup chicken broth. Add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon dried sage (or 1 teaspoon fresh), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir well.

  5. 05

Reduce heat to medium, cover, and simmer 12–15 minutes, stirring once or twice, until sweet potato is tender.

  6. 06

Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and more sage if desired. Serve warm.

Spice Tips

For warmth, add 1/4 teaspoon ginger or a pinch of nutmeg to the broth. For subtle heat, include a pinch of cayenne pepper. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice at the end brightens the earthiness of the sweet potato.

Serve over rice, couscous, or with crusty bread to soak up the broth. Leftovers keep 3 days refrigerated and reheat beautifully.
