  • 2 tablespoonolive oil
  • 1 teaspooncumin
  • ¾ teaspoonsmoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspooncinnamon
  • ¾ cupchicken broth
  • ·kosher salt
  • ·black pepper

Prep

  1. 01

Peel and dice 2 medium sweet potatoes into 1/2-inch cubes.

  2. 02

    Dice 1 medium yellow onion.

  3. 03

    Mince 3 garlic cloves.

Method

  1. 01

Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it apart as it browns, until no pink remains (about 5 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. 02

Stir in 1 teaspoon cumin, 3/4 teaspoon smoked paprika, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Toast for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  3. 03

Add the diced onion and garlic; cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onion softens.

  4. 04

Add the diced sweet potato and 3/4 cup chicken broth. Bring to a gentle simmer.

  5. 05

Reduce heat to medium and cover. Simmer for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sweet potato is tender.

  6. 06

Season to taste with kosher salt and black pepper. Serve warm as is, over rice, or with crusty bread.

Spice Tips

For warmth, add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes with the spices. A squeeze of fresh lime juice at the end brightens all the flavors. Chopped cilantro or fresh parsley makes a nice garnish.

Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat beautifully. For a heartier meal, serve over rice, couscous, or with a dollop of Greek yogurt.
