  • 2lime
  • 1 tablespoonfresh ginger
  • 3 clovesgarlic
  • 2 tablespoonsoy sauce
  • 1 tablespoonhoney
  • 2 tablespoonolive oil
  • ·salt
  • ·black pepper
  • 2scallion
  • ½ teaspoonsesame seeds

Prep

  1. 01

Juice 2 limes into a small bowl.

  2. 02

Mince 1 tablespoon fresh ginger and mince 3 cloves garlic.

  3. 03

Slice 2 scallions, separating white and green parts if desired.

Method

  1. 01

Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 1 minute.

  2. 02

Season both sides of the tilapia fillets generously with salt and pepper.

  3. 03

Place fillets skin-side up in the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom is golden and crisp. Flip and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until the fish is opaque throughout and flakes easily with a fork. Transfer to a plate.

  4. 04

Pour off all but 1 teaspoon of oil from the skillet. Add the minced ginger and garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly, until fragrant.

  5. 05

Add 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon honey, and the juice of 2 limes. Stir to combine and simmer for 1 minute.

  6. 06

Return the tilapia to the skillet or spoon the glaze over the fillets on the plate. Top with sliced scallions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Spice Tips

For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dab of sriracha to the glaze. A touch of white pepper in place of black pepper adds subtle heat without overpowering the bright citrus notes.
