Brussels Sprouts with Crispy Garlic and Lemon Breadcrumbs

Ingredients

  • 1½ poundsbrussels sprouts
  • 3 tablespoonolive oil
  • 4 clovegarlic
  • ½ cuppanko breadcrumbs
  • 1lemon
  • ·salt
  • ·black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoonred pepper flakes (optional)

    Trim brussels sprouts and halve them lengthwise.

    Mince 4 cloves garlic.

Method

    Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

    Add brussels sprouts cut side down and cook for 5–7 minutes, undisturbed, until the bottoms are golden. Shake the pan to turn them, then cook another 3–4 minutes until tender and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a plate.

    In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

    Add panko breadcrumbs and toast, stirring often, for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.

    Zest the lemon over the breadcrumb mixture, squeeze in the juice, and toss to combine.

    Return brussels sprouts to the skillet, toss gently with the garlic-lemon breadcrumbs, and serve immediately.

Spice Tips

A pinch of red pepper flakes in the breadcrumbs adds subtle heat. Try finishing with fresh thyme or a dash of smoked paprika for deeper flavor.

The crispy breadcrumb topping adds texture without heaviness. For a protein boost, serve alongside grilled fish or roasted chicken.
