Pan-Seared Cabbage with Crispy Edges and Garlic
Ingredients
- 1green cabbage (medium head)
- 3 tablespoonolive oil
- 4 clovegarlic
- ·salt
- ·black pepper
- ¼ teaspoonred pepper flakes
Prep
- 01
Slice 1 medium green cabbage into thin strips (about 1/4 inch thick) and remove any tough outer leaves.
- 02
Mince 4 cloves garlic.
Method
- 01
Heat 3 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 2 minutes.
- 02
Add the sliced cabbage and cook without stirring for 4–5 minutes, until the bottom layer is deeply browned and crispy. Stir well, breaking up any clumps.
- 03
Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, for another 5–7 minutes until most of the cabbage is tender and charred at the edges.
- 04
Push cabbage to the sides of the pan. Add minced garlic to the center and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, then toss everything together.
- 05
Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste. Serve immediately as a side or over rice or with roasted chicken.
Spice Tips
For warmth, increase red pepper flakes to 1/2 teaspoon or add a pinch of cayenne. A squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice at the end brightens the dish. Try finishing with a drizzle of sesame oil for deeper, toasty flavor.
