- ½ teaspoondried thyme
Prep
- 01
Dice 2 medium yellow onions.
- 02
Mince 4 cloves garlic.
Method
- 01
Melt 1 tablespoon butter with 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a plate.
- 02
In the same skillet, add remaining 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden at the edges, about 8 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook 1 minute until fragrant.
- 03
Stir in rice and cook 2–3 minutes, stirring often, until the grains are coated and lightly toasted.
- 04
Return turkey to the skillet. Pour in 3 cups chicken broth and sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook 18–20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- 05
Remove from heat, let stand 5 minutes covered, then fluff with a fork. Taste and adjust salt and pepper. Serve warm.
Spice Tips
For deeper savory notes, stir in 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika with the rice. A pinch of cayenne adds gentle heat. Fresh parsley scattered over each bowl brightens the finish.
Leftovers keep well refrigerated for 3–4 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of water or broth to restore moisture. You can swap in brown rice, but add 5–10 extra minutes of cooking time.
