  • 1 poundmushrooms (cremini, button, or oyster)
  • 4 clovesgarlic
  • ½ cupheavy cream
  • 2 teaspoonfresh thyme
  • ·salt
  • ·black pepper
  • ½lemon

Prep

  1. 01

    Mince 4 cloves garlic.

  2. 02

Clean and slice 1 pound mushrooms into 1/4-inch thick pieces.

Method

  1. 01

Toast the bread slices until golden and crispy, about 2 to 3 minutes per side.

  2. 02

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  3. 03

Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until they release their liquid and begin to brown, about 6 to 8 minutes.

  4. 04

Pour in the cream and stir in the thyme. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  5. 05

Squeeze in a small squeeze of lemon juice to brighten the flavors.

  6. 06

Spoon the creamy mushroom mixture over each piece of toast and serve immediately.

Spice Tips

For deeper warmth, add a pinch of smoked paprika or nutmeg to the cream sauce. A dash of hot sauce or cracked red pepper flakes brings gentle heat. Fresh tarragon or chives scattered on top add brightness.
