  • 1 poundasparagus
  • 4 tablespoonbutter
  • 5 clovesgarlic
  • 1lemon
  • ·salt
  • ·black pepper
  • ·red pepper flakes

Prep

  1. 01

    Mince 5 cloves garlic.

  2. 02

Trim woody ends from 1 pound asparagus and pat shrimp dry with paper towels.

  3. 03

Cut lemon into halves for juicing.

Method

  1. 01

Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat until foaming.

  2. 02

Add asparagus, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender-crisp and lightly browned. Transfer to a plate.

  3. 03

Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter to the same skillet. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  4. 04

Add shrimp in a single layer, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 2-3 minutes until they begin to turn pink.

  5. 05

Flip shrimp and cook for another 1-2 minutes until opaque throughout.

  6. 06

Return asparagus to the skillet. Squeeze in juice from 1 lemon, add a pinch of red pepper flakes, and toss gently to combine. Cook for 30 seconds.

  7. 07

Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve immediately.

Spice Tips

For warmth, increase red pepper flakes to 1/4 teaspoon or add a pinch of cayenne. A splash of white wine (2-3 tablespoons) deglazes the pan beautifully and adds depth.

Serve over buttered rice, pasta, or crusty bread to catch the pan sauce. Works beautifully with a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio.
