Ingredients

  • 1 poundshrimp (large, peeled and deveined)
  • 1½ poundbroccoli
  • 4 clovesgarlic
  • 1 tablespoonginger
  • 2 tablespoonsoy sauce
  • 1 tablespoonrice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoonsesame oil
  • 2 tablespoonvegetable oil
  • ¼ teaspoonred pepper flakes
  • 1lime
  • 2green onions

Prep

  1. 01

Mince 4 cloves garlic and 1 tablespoon fresh ginger.

  2. 02

Chop 2 green onions into thin rounds.

  3. 03

Cut 1.5 pounds broccoli into bite-sized florets.

Method

  1. 01

Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over high heat until smoking. Add broccoli florets in a single layer and cook without stirring for 3–4 minutes until deeply charred on the bottom. Stir and cook 2 minutes more until tender-crisp. Transfer to a plate.

  2. 02

Add remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to the same skillet and reduce heat to medium-high. Add shrimp and cook 2 minutes per side until pink and just cooked through. Remove to the plate with broccoli.

  3. 03

Pour soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil into the skillet. Swirl in the minced garlic and ginger, stirring constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes.

  4. 04

Return shrimp and broccoli to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for 1 minute until everything is heated through.

  5. 05

Squeeze lime juice over the dish, scatter chopped green onions on top, and serve immediately.

Spice Tips

For more heat, increase red pepper flakes to 1/2 teaspoon or add a pinch of cayenne. A splash of sriracha stirred into the sauce adds both spice and subtle sweetness.

Serve over steamed rice or quinoa to soak up the sauce. The recipe works equally well with firm white fish fillets cut into chunks.
